2.25 LAKH SAPLINGS TO BE PLANTED IN ALL URBAN LOCAL BODIES, RECORD OF COUNT AND PROGRESS WILL BE KEPT ONLINE: BALKAR SINGH

THE MINISTER OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT INITIATED THE CAMPAIGN BY PLANTING SAPLINGS AND LAUNCHED THE “HARA-PUNJAB AND RANGLA PUNJAB” MOBILE APP.

THE MINISTER URGED THE CITIZENS OF THE STATE TO BE MINDFUL OF KEEPING THE ENVIRONMENT CLEAN

Chandigarh, June 5:-The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, is continuously striving to provide a clean and green environment to the people of the state. To achieve this goal, the Local Government Department has set a target of planting approximately 2.25 lakh native plants across the state this year. Today, on the occasion of World Environment Day, the Minister of the Department, S.Balkar Singh, planted a no. of saplings in the compound of the Department at Municipal Bhawan, Sector 35 Chandigarh, and also launched the “Hara-Punjab, Rangla-Punjab” mobile app, Urban Greening and Tree Plantation strategic guidelines the beginning of this campaign.

The Minister for Local Government stated that the Local Government Department aims to plant about 2.25 lakh native plants in all Urban Local Bodies of the state to enhance greenery in Punjab’s urban areas. He also appealed to the residents of the state to actively participate in the strategies developed by the local government department for planting greenery and trees in the cities.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining the saplings after planting, and therefore, an online record of the numbers and progress of the planted saplings across the state will be maintained through the “Hara-Punjab, Rangla-Punjab” mobile app.

Reiterating their commitment to a more sustainable and climate-friendly approach to urbanization and city growth, Balkar Singh stated that this mobile application will facilitate monitoring the actual status and progress of the planted plants, while encouraging citizens to actively engage in this initiative.

He mentioned that this campaign will be conducted in coordination with different wings of the department, and the department has prepared necessary guidelines for Urban Local Bodies regarding greening activities.

On this occasion, Mr. Ajoy Sharma, Secretary of the department, and Mrs. Isha Kalia, PMIDC CEO, along with other officials, were also present.
